ABOUT
TINA ARIAS MILLER

A LIFELONG STUDENT...

BORN AND RAISED IN RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, I STARTED MY EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY AT THE LOCAL CITY COLLEGE.  MY GOAL WAS TO GET TO UC RIVERSIDE, WHICH EVENTUALLY HAPPENED FOR ME AFTER HAVING FOUR CHILDREN AND WORKING AS A MEDICAL ASSISTANT FOR SIX YEARS.  LIKE SO MANY OF OUR STUDENTS, WE SOMETIMES FIND THE PATH TO OUR GOALS SLIGHTLY DIVERTED AS OUR PRIORITIES CHANGE.

AFTER GRADUATING FROM UCR, WE PACKED UP AND MOVED TO THE CITY OF ORANGE WHERE MY KIDS ATTENDED K-12 AT OUSD.  I TRANSITIONED FROM MEDICAL ASSISTING TO COLLEGE INSTRUCTION AND CAREER SERVICES, HELPING STUDENTS ACHIEVE THEIR EMPLOYMENT GOALS AS NEW MEDICAL AND DENTAL ASSISTANTS.  I FOUND MY PASSION IN EDUCATIONAL SERVICES AND LEFT THE MEDICAL OFFICE.

IN 2004, I GRADUATED WITH MY MASTERS IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND BEGAN WORKING WITH STUDENTS WHO WERE PURSUING BACHELOR'S DEGREES IN VARIOUS TECHNICAL PROGRAMS FOR THE NEXT 12 YEARS.  WHEN MY OWN KIDS BEGAN GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND STARTED COLLEGE AND THE MARINE CORP, THAT IS WHEN I DECIDED TO WORK TOWARDS A DOCTORATE DEGREE IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP.  MY DISSERTATION FOCUSED ON A STUDY OF NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS AND THEIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE.  THIS LEAD ME TO OPPORTUNITIES WORKING AT SANTA ANA COLLEGE AND MY CURRENT ROLE AS PROJECT DIRECTOR AT NORTH ORANGE COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT.
